While cholesterol is essential for normal body function, an imbalance can significantly impact heart health. High levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or “bad” cholesterol, can lead to plaque buildup in the arteries (atherosclerosis), causing them to narrow and harden. This restricts blood flow and raises the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and peripheral artery disease. In contrast, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or “good” cholesterol, helps remove LDL from the bloodstream, lowering cardiovascular risks. To help manage cholesterol levels, the Pinggang Pinoy dietary guide is recommended.
